About WIAL USA

THE WORLD INSTITUTE FOR ACTION LEARNING-USA (WIAL-USA)

is a non-profit organization dedicated to the growth and advancement of Action Learning in business and government. Simply put, WIAL-USA solves problems, cultivates productive teams, and builds leaders in real time. As organizations face new and increasing pressures, Action Learning is more relevant than ever as an effective solution for solving complex problems and building strong working teams.

Specifically, action learning is remarkable in its ability to:

  • solve problems and challenges with breakthrough and sustaining strategies,
  • develop the leadership skills and qualities needed by twenty-first-century managers,
  • develop teams that continuously improve their capability to form and adapt, and
  • capture, transfer, and apply valuable knowledge at the individual, group, organizational, and community levels.

Additionally, WIAL-USA promotes Action Learning through forums, certification workshops, professional coaching, research, thought leadership, publications and other initiatives.

 

Breakthrough Problem Solving with Action Learning

Breakthrough Problem Solving with Action Learning explores why and how action learning groups have been so successful and creative in solving complex problems. The text begins by briefly reviewing the theories that undergird the effectiveness of action learning, philosophically situating readers and pointing them in the direction of related academic works that they may wish to explore. It then turns to stories of how organizations have employed action learning in solving specific, often-encountered business problems. These cases not only serve as real-world models for how action learning can be successfully employed, but also offer inspiration and potential starting points and guidelines for other businesses that face similar problems. The Power of Action Learning, in fact, is based on two essential behaviors: reflexive approach and continuous learning. J. Michael Marquardt is Professor of HRD at George Washington University Founder and president of the World Institute of Action Learning (WIAL), has received an honorary Ph.D. by the International Management Center in Oxford for his contribution to the spread of Action Learning. He worked for several years with Reg Revans helping to define the current structure of the Action Learning methodology. Author of numerous works, has extensive international experience as a Master Action Learning Coach. Ceriani Andrea is the founder and director of KKIEN Enterprise, a company management training and development consultancy HR. Professor at the Catholic University of Milan for more than 15 years, has achieved certification in Action Learning Coach with WIAL and is the founder of WIAL Italy, a brand created for the dissemination of Action Learning programs in Italy. He is a member of the board Lombard AIF and the author of several volumes in the training and consulting.
