The question I would ask myself is what are the learning opportunities here? The team has been processing well, in this case I take that they follow the process, ground rules & practice their leadership. Before I did any intervention, I will constantly ask myself that.

Note: As an Action Learning Coach, I will not assume that everything is doing well. In the scenario provided, I will intervene by asking:

    1) “How are we doing as a team in a scale of 1-10?” I will go around the table get their ratings one by one. By the ratings provided around the table, I will get a feel whether my possible perception that they are doing well, is indeed validated by the team.

    2) I will give a follow-through question: “What are we doing well?” I will get the team’s opinion on what they think they are doing well.

    3) Even if the team is doing well by the ratings they provided during the rounds, I will ensure that the team elevates their learning by asking: “Team, what can we do better?” I will then again get the responses from the team members to get agreements on what they can do better.

As AL coach, I will observe the situation and make some self check:

    1. What makes the team is going well?
    2. What they are focusing now?
    3. Any learning opportunities occur during last few minutes?

If I have some clear answers based on the observation for above questions, I will decide whether I should intervene or not.

I the group has been processing particularly well but 30 has the last intervention, I would now make an intervention to ensure that there is breakthrough and ask: 1. on a scale of 1-10 how have we been working as group. 2. what are doing well 3. what can we do better.
Then state that in a few minutes??? I will be asking for breakthrough strategies,so begin to capture those thoughts on paper.

There is no set time for interventions but not a bad thing to reinforce what they are doing well.

The standard questions would be perfect – How are we doing on a scale of 1 – 10? What are we doing well? What can we do better?

Depending on the exact circumstances I might do a quick time check to keep the team informed.

    1. If the team is going well, should let the team progress by themselves and be a good time keeper and remind them of the time left. It is good that AL coach should stay as “invisible” as possible if they can facilitate by themselves. However, as a AL coach, I will have to still observe whether are they progressing towards finding solutions. Most importantly, I should intervene when there are learning opportunities (by asking learning questions).

There is no specific time requirement for intervention. If all is going well, As an action learning coach, I will say:
    1) “Team, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 – poor, 10 – excellent, how are we doing as a group so far?”
    2) “What are we doing well?”
    3) “What could we do better?”
    4) “You have xx minutes left. Let me remind everyone of your leadership competencies. Remember to practice them.”

Foremost intervention will be made when the team is not following the ground rules and there is been learning opportunities. If the team is been progressing well for the last 30 minutes, as a coach I will keep them in check of their progress.
    1. How are doing we so far as a team in the scale of 1-10?
    2. What are we doing well?
    3. What could we do better?
    4. Teams in the scale of 1-10 how are we demonstrating our leadership skills?

Depending on the situation and the AL phase, a pulse Check will be good here.
ask the team how are they doing, on a scale 1-10
follow up with what went well, and what can be make it better?
and remind them on the time and where the Session is at, and the expectations to come (ie; PP to decide on action, or team to demonstrate learning competencies)
