Depending on the group’s flow, I would either do nothing at the moment itself but recall the situation during the final reflections, or ask the person/team directly what he/they think the impact of this act can be on the group’s current focus.

Pause the meeting. Ask what made them check their phones? Ask the members the group agreement on gadgets and electronics. The situation will be an intervention. I will ask, how this event manifest in their work environment? How is it affecting their and their teams effectiveness or efficiency? What can be possible ways to prevent or minimize similar incidents?

On the next meeting, I would remind members of the agreement on devices and technology.

Once the member has checked their phone depending on what the agreements made were I would use SID as an intervention if in the beginning of the session it is established during the norms that phones are not to be used, I would intervene in such a manner. Team I observed that a member has been using their phone during the session, What would be the impact if the team were to continue this session without following the agreements made before we started? Then I would follow up by asking them how would they like to proceed.

I will intervene n ask how are we doing on following the norms set at the start of session. Did anyone notice a team member not following this norm. What’s the impact on team. What does the team want to do about it.

It depends on the specific situation at the time, if it is just a quick look at the time, it does not affect the discussion is fine.
If it takes longer, I would intervene and say, “Student XX, I noticed that during the 5 minutes you were just there, you were looking at your phone and not participating in the discussion or asking questions. What is the impact on the group if one member is missing from the discussion? What do we expect from the group next?

At the start of each session I would hope that ground rules would have been established and agreed, one of those being that as the coach I would be the time keeper. So I would hope that the phone-checking was just forgetfulness and that a simple glance would suffice as a reminder. If it was a constant issue, or happened again, I would use an intervention to ask the group about things going well/not so well and hope it had been noticed by others, and/or remind the group that I will be managing the time and for them to try and concentrate on the problem, questions and answers.

As a coach I will use SID intervention Model and start with : Hello team,
    1. What is occupying your mind at the moment?
Members can answer multiple directions. The person checking the watch will be able to raise his or her problem.
    2. What can we do to be better prepared next time.
Depending on the choice of the team, we will decide to take a break for a few minutes or continue with
    3. What are we doing well ?
    4. What we could do better?

As a coach, I will consider the real time, that my team spent , if time is not affected, the coach does’nt need intervent. If the coach finds that time is not being used well, the coach will use the SID Intervention Model and begin with: Hello team,
    1. On a scale of 1-10, how is the quality of teamwork?
    2. What if our group continued to ask such questions?
    2. What can we do better?

    I would like tointervene.
    – What happened to the behavior of the team members?
    – What if this behavior persists?
If not impact I would like to be continue.
