I would ask:”How critical is the information for your next steps in the session”‘, “What will it cause then?”; “How are you going to keep the norms of our meeting outside our room?” “How are we going to proceed when you return?; “What time are you going to be back?” I would agree once we all understand answers to all these questions. Later I would ask how the action influenced our meeting. What was OK and what can be done differently next time. I am very curious of the outcome of such situation. It can be very good idea, as well as a bad one – depending on the team and the context.

I would ensure that the group can effectively and safely engage in the problem-solving process. In the event that the group needs to travel to another location to gather information, I would ensure that safety is the top priority and that the discussion remains focused on the problem at hand, while allowing for necessary breaks and alternative methods of communication, as needed.

Another tough one! This move seem to be a consensus within the group so as their Coach, I will go with them as they continue the session. I will remind them of the 2 ground rules before we set off to keep the spirit of AL even on the move.

As a Action Learning Coach, I will intervene by
1) Team, What is the situation of this session ?
2) What did we do?
3) I will remind them of the 2 ground rules before we set off to keep the spirit of AL even on the move.
4) What could we do in a different way?

I’ll ask: How important is that info for the AL session?
If that is not important info, we’ll continue with session without it.
If we cannot continue the session without that info, I’ll ask to book another session because I cannot make sure we have a good quality of this AL session while moving on a car.

Instead of asking to book another session, it should be better to help team realize the the situation by asking:
“Do you ensure the quality of communication while doing Action Learning on the car?
How do you take notes and observe leadership skill in action from other team members?
Is this feasible? How do you decide on the next steps for this session?”

I’ll ask: On a scale from 1-5, with 1 being the least important, and 5 being most important,
how important is that particular information to solve the problem? Based on their responses, we’d make a decision to either go to the location of the material or stay put.
