DR. CHUCK APPLEBY
Director Emeritus
Dr. Appleby specializes in working with leaders as an executive coach, facilitator, consultant, and educator. His focus is helping leaders build great organizations where the systems, strategy, and culture allow people to achieve personal fulfillment and business results.
He is one of the world’s foremost authorities on action learning. He co-founded the World Institute for Action Learning, Action Learning Source, and the Peer Learning Network. He has taught action learning and peer coaching in China, Singapore, Dubai, and Kenya, as well as the United States. He combines action learning, design thinking, and change management in building world-class leadership development programs.
He has worked with individual leaders and senior leadership teams in federal and local governments, non-profit, and commercial organizations. His commercial clients include Intel, John Hancock, Wells Fargo, Nielsen, Microsoft, and Exelon. His non-profit and NGO clients include the World Bank Group, IMF, Arlington County, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Environmental Protection Agency, Goodwill Industries International, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Dr. Appleby has held adjunct faculty positions at the George Washington University and Georgetown University where he taught courses in action learning, organization development, consulting skills, leadership, change management, and design thinking.
He has a PhD (with Distinction) in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies. He has a BA in History and Economics from Dartmouth College. He is a keynote speaker on leadership, change management, and employee engagement.
