Q&A – Using an Understanding of the Problem Solving Process to Improve Coaching for Larger Action Learning Projects @ Virtual Event
Sep 30 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
Q&A - Using an Understanding of the Problem Solving Process to Improve Coaching for Larger Action Learning Projects @ Virtual Event
Dr. Skipton Leonard will be available for Q & A regarding his pre-recorded video presentation that will be released by WIAL Global during Action Learning Week. This presentation is entitled, “Using an Understanding of the Problem Solving Process to Improve Coaching for Larger Action Learning Projects”. This presentation ties directly to the course Dr. Leonard is offering through WIAL USA called Advanced Techniques in Action Learning. He’ll answer questions about this course as well. Below is further information about the course. ABOUT THE COURSE To ensure participants already have a working knowledge of Action Learning, this program will be limited to coaches that have completed the CALC course in the US or Internationally. SALCs and MALCs will also find this course to add value to their practice. Though you may have a good understanding of Action Learning while coaching clients through single sessions, coaching multi-session Action Learning will require you to move beyond the “script” and execute a more nuanced approach through subsequent sessions. This course will help you refine the practices and principles learned in your initial CALC training and explore how to change depending on the stage of the problem-solving process. The purpose of the proposed training program is to fill gaps in knowledge and experience while providing advanced techniques, methods, and models. These will prepare Coaches with the necessary information, skills, and experience to tackle the longest and most complex AL processes. Participants of the course will be expected to meet for five 3-hour sessions over two weeks. An organizational problem will be introduced to the participants on day one and all of these sessions will dedicate 90 minutes to working on this problem. ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR Dr. Skipton Leonard is one of the co-founders of WIAL and its Executive Director from 2006-2012. He was one of the developers of the CALC training programs along with Dr. Mike Marquardt, and Dr. Arthur Freedman. He is also an Emeritus Board member of WIAL. Trained as a social and organizational psychologist, Skip has devoted his career to helping individuals, teams, and organizations achieve their goals and accomplish their missions by learning how to be more adaptive, creative, and innovative. He is a noted authority on Action Learning, organizational and systems change, and leadership development. He has trained hundreds of Action Learning coaches through WIAL-based programs and continues to review WIAL certification reports. His real-world experience in AL is extensive, serving as an Action Learning coach for the following organizations – Microsoft, Pfizer, Target, Wells Fargo, Chrysler, US National Institutes of Health, US Defense Intelligence Agency, Carey Business School of Johns Hopkins U., and US Department of Commerce. As a scholar, Skip has been on the faculty of a number of top universities including the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, George Mason University, and the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. A leader in his profession, Skip is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association and Past-President of the Society of Consulting Psychology. His was also the founding editor of a peer-reviewed journal, Consulting Psychology Journal. Dr. Leonard has over 100 books, book chapters, articles, and professional presentations to his credit. Finally, Dr. Leonard is currently Co-Principal and Managing Director for Learning Thru Action, LLC, a consulting firm that provides action-based solutions for developing organizations and people.
