As an action learning coach, how would you handle the following situation:

Team members not adhering to the norms they agreed to is a “classic” scenario for an Action Learning coach to intervene on. As the AL coach in this situation, I would first bring the observation to the AL set by stating, “I’m observing that some of the norms you agreed on as a team are not being adhered to” (for example, someone takes out his/her phone to check messages whereas the agreed to norm was that phones would remain put away until the end of the AL session). Next, I would ask, “What is the impact on the team when agreed to norms are not adhered to?” And lastly, “How would the team like to manage this norm (telephone use) moving forward in the session?”
