Scenario: Missing Participants
The team you are coaching is working on a critical corporate problem in a leadership development program. The leadership program and work on the project is scheduled to be completed over six months. Two of the eight people in the group do not show up routinely.

As an Action Learning Coach for the team who needs to complete a very critical corporate problem in a leadership development program in six weeks, the intervention will be as follows:
1) ” Team, it seems like some team members are not consistently present during our meetings. How important is the presence of all our team members to the resolution of our corporate problem/s? Please rate its importance in a scale of 1-10? 1 being not important and 10 being very important and critical”. I will wait for the ratings provided by the team.
2) “Team, what is the impact if some of our team members are not consistently present?” I will wait again for the responses provided.
3) Depending on the responses provided, I will then ask, “Team, how do we ensure that we have all the resources we need pertaining to our deliverables as a team?” I will again wait for the decision of the team.

As an action learning coach, below are interventions should be taken.
1. Talk to the tam about the impact. ” Team, it seems that some team members are missing and not consistently presented in our meeting. How this absent will be impacted our meeting?
What would we should do better next time? Any suggestions? I will wait for their response.
2. ” Team, what do you think we are facing right now as a team? What would you like to suggest to handle this situation?

1) What are you noticing about the level of involvement from members in the programme?
2) How did this (whatever is surfaced) impact the team?
3) What can you do to optimise involvement as a team?

As others have said – I will bring it to the attention of the team and allow them to determine steps forward.
My questions would be – I’ve noticed we’ve been missing 2 members on a fairly regular basis. Did anyone else notice that?
What is the impact of their absence on the team?
How do we want to handle it? Particularly in terms of – what should our group norm be in terms of participating in the meetings? and who will inform our missing members of our norm?

As an action learning coach, I will intervene with the following questions:
1) Team, we have team members whom are not showing up in the meeting? How does this absence impact the meeting?
2) What will the team suggest to do?
After then, I will ask the team learning questions:
1) What do we learn about the importance of team involvement?
2) How can each member contribute effectively to the session outcome?

1) “Team, I notice that we have been missing 2 members in some of our meetings. What is the impact of these 2 members missing? ”
2) “Moving forward, what can we do to ensure that every member be present in all meetings?”
3) “What can we do to support the 2 missing members to keep them updated of our conversation today and get them up to speed for the next meeting?”

Although the session can be continued with a minimum of 4 team members (as stated in the components of AL, 4-8 members for ideal team) as a learning coach, I will ask a series of questions to all the members:
1) Team, on a scale of 1 – 10, how is the participation as a team?
2) What do you notice about the involvement from members in the programme?
3) What is the impact of this (participants missing) towards finding the solution?
4) What can be done to utilize the resources?

人员缺席,虽然满足行动的六要素的要求(4-8个持多元观点的成员组成群组),但关键项目有成员缺席,依然会对研讨产生一些影响。我作为教练,需要作出以下行动:
1、项目开始前与项目负责人订立一个出勤规则,如缺席达到2次或以上,则替换其他人。
2、如果出现成员单次缺席,我会在研讨会开始时询问其他的成员“有成员缺席,对接下来的研讨会产生什么影响?我们如何确保缺席的人员能跟上进度?”让团队内部自行建立“学习承诺”
