As part of the learning process I’d ask how the group is doing building off of each other’s questions.

As the AL coach, I would first do a standard check-in of “how are we doing on a scale of 1-10?” and “What are we doing well and what could we do better?” Depending on the reflection/learning of the group demonstrated in those responses, I could follow with, “What ways might our questioning skills be improved?” In general, I would prefer that the learning be discovered from the group’s own responses/insights rather than with a more direct leading question about questions. However, part of the decision on which way to proceed would depend on the time allotted and the time already expended.

After asking the 3 standard questions, i would ask “How are we doing building off each other’s questions? Why is important we build off of each other’s questions? How can we make that happen in this team?

As an Action Learning Coach, I will intervene and ask them to rate the types of questions being thrown out. If no one has noticed the “own line of questioning” pattern, I will ask them how they think of the next question to ask. I will ask them if they have “programmed questions” in their heads already. I will then ask them about the impact of having programmed questions vis a vis, build off questions. Then, I will ask them how they want to move forward knowing this.

I’d start with the standard 3 questions – How are we doing on a scale of 1 – 10? what are we doing well? what can we do better?
If no one brought it up –
How are we doing building on each others questions?
Why is it important that we build on each others questions?
How will we hold each other accountable to build on each others questions?

I will intervene with comment: I have observed that you are very focus on your own questions and same questions have been repeated? Then I will ask the team “how this fact impact on team performance and end result? Or “what would happen as result of whole team if each member keeps doing the same by just focusing into his own questioning line? How would we do better in building questions “or “how would it be different from building questions on each other’s”

(2)”I have observed that you are focused on your own line of questioning. how this fact impact on team performance and end result?”
