I would ask something along the lines of “Has anyone noticed who is receiving all of our questions thus far?” Based on the group’s response . . . which I think would be apparent . . . we could explore the benefit of opening up the questioning to others. How might we engage others in the process of responding to questions? What value is there to be gained by doing so? And to the Problem Presenter . . . What does it feel like being asked all of the questions? Are there some questions you might like to ask of the group?

As the Action Learning Coach, I would intervene and address them accordingly, framing the question in a different way, such as:
By asking questions of each other, how can we discover the other knowledge members of the working group have? Why is it important that we tap into the diverse knowledge available to us here?

I would ask – What’s the balance of who is asking and who is answering questions?
Why is it important that we tap all the knowledge we have here?
How can we tap into each others knowledge?

I would asked, “Team, i notice that all the questions are directed to the problem presenter, how would that impact the team? How can be better tap into each others knowledge?

I would ask, “What have you noticed about who the questions have been directed to?” Assuming they would answer they have all been directed to the presenter I would then ask what the impact of that is and then what they will do to improve.

I would do a quick Yes-No round and ask: “Have you been asked a question?”
Since the members will say “No”, I would then follow with: “What would be the impact if only the problem presenter gets to answer questions?”
Then I would ask: “Coming from this, what do we need to do as a team moving forward?”

I would intervene by asking the group, “To whom are all the questions directed to so far?” After their responses, I would follow up by asking, “What does the group think might be the possible impact of directing all the questions to one person?” followed by “How does the group wish to proceed with its questioning, bearing in mind their objective/the problem to be solved?”

I would intervene and say I noticed that all the questions are going to the problem presenter. Who else might have answers to some of these questions? How will this benefit the group to hear from others on the team? What can you change moving forward? Who want to ask the next question?

As an Action Learning Coach I notice that all the questions are being directed towards the problem raiser. I therefore ask the team the following: How can we employ the present knowledge and experience in order to jointly identify problems? The problem-raiser can be asked the following question: which question do you want to ask the team?

Intervene when the questions to the problem presenter continue, and ask:
– Where are all the questions being directed?
– Why is it important that we tap into the diverse expertise available to us here?
– How can we discover the rest of the expertise within this group?
– Who has the next question?

I call it: “I see that the questions are mainly asked to the presenter? Do you notice that too?
What would it bring if you asked the other participants too?”
